The City of Loviisa has owned and maintained Viirilä Local Museum since 2010. A farm by the name Gräggas was donated to the municipality of Ruotsinpyhtää in the mid 1960ies. The building was refurbished into a museum by means of voluntary work and it was opened to the public in July 1968. The majority of the museum objects were collected in the early 1960ies during a regional effort by students of collecting folklore. Similar collections were carried out in various parts of Finland at the time. The number of artifacts has increased through donations and they total approximately 3 000. The museum presents farm life and handicraft culture of past centuries in the region. The museum is seamlessly connected with the village of Viirilä and its farming tradition.
